SOHO LOFT


This loft is an art studio and residence for parents of a well-known fashion designer.  The existing kitchen, bathroom and children’s rooms were demolished to refurbish and widen the space and move the master bedroom to the main floor of the loft.


In order to minimize the impact on the existing living area, the new kitchen and bathroom enclosures do not reach the ceiling. This establishes the new addition as an object within the space that opens visually into the living room.  As a result, the original spaciousness of the loft is restored. A glass ceiling and a window into the new kitchen were designed to allow light from the exterior windows to penetrate into the bathroom. This transparency allows bathing and preparing for the day in natural daylight.  


The design moves were kept to a minimum, focusing on transparency and communication between the spaces, walls were lowered, or deleted, opening up the space to the existing window. The classic problem of a New York loft is how to bring the light in the deep floor areas.


The Owners are avid collectors of found objects from the New York City streets and now have a unified  backdrop for their objects and artworks.
 
 
 

ポーゼン邸


このロフトは高名なファッションデザイナーの両親の住宅兼アトリエである。既存のキッチン、浴室を取り払われ、それに替わるスチームバス室、キッチンが新たに加えられた。また新しい寝室が居間の奥に設けられた。

 

浴室、トイレスチームシャワー室を収めている新しい部分が居間の空間を圧迫しないよう、小さなオブジェとして加えられた。オブジェの壁はロフトの高い天井にぐらべ低く抑えられ、既存の居間からの天井がオブジェの新しい屋根を越えて連続しているいる。かつて工場として使われていたときの大きな空間が再び感覚できる。

 

新しいオブジェの内部はキッチンとの間のガラス壁とガラス天井を通して入る外光で常に明るい。光の中でシャワーを楽しむことができる。キッチンと居間の間でコミュニケーションが出来るように、オブジェが少し角度を振っていて。キッチンは居間に向けて開いていてる。

オーナーによって集められたさまざまなオブジェや自身によるたくさんの作品が、それぞれの居場所を獲得することになった。
