PROPOSAL FOR KIEDLER OBSERVATORY


Every year the Kiedler region of northern England hosts a competition for the design of a small building or art object. Each new project has successively helped the area develop its natural beauty and become a popular travel destination. For this competition a small observatory on a reforested mountainside will be built as an icon for the area. It will house two telescopes with hand operable enclosures and an observation station.

 

Our proposal focuses on integrating the observatory as a part of landscape, and landscale as a part of the observatory. The vaulted forms of the enclosure are a logical extension of the telescopes; they open up along the path with simple sliding enclosures. The entire landscape transforms nightly from a colourful meadow of wildflowers to a setting for viewing the stars. An illuminated path of shimmering red lights to guide the way. Professionals and amateurs can enjoy the communication between space and nature.

 

 

 
 
 
 

キードラー天体観測所


イングランド北部に位置するキルダー地方はこの地がより楽しく、より美しい場所となるように、毎年継続的に無名の建築家やアーティストを選定して、いろいろな地点に小さな建物やアートオブジェクトを設置するという試みを行っている。その成果は着実に蓄積されてきており、この地を訪れる人がしだいに増えてきている。今年は　広大な山林の上に小さな天体観測所を設けることになった。周囲のランドスケープのデザインも含め、山林の中にあって景観を異化し、この地方のアイコンとなることが期待された。

 

建物は地面に直に載ってるいシリンダーでできていて、屋根をスライドさせると望遠鏡が現れる。私たちの提案は望遠鏡とその建物をランドスケープの一部に、ランドスケープを建物の一部にすることであった。自動車が人間の足の延長部になっているように、シリンダー状の屋根は　望遠鏡に必要な機能の延長となる。昼間はカラフルな花が咲き誇る丘は、夜には星々をみるための巨大な装置となる。専門家やアマチュア、また一般の市民も訪れて、宇宙・自然と交感できる場所となる。
