Luminous LoungerThe Luminous Lounger is an exercise in visual paradox. The form appears to be carved from a solid chunk of ice, that glows from within. The glow provides a feeling of warmth, the plastic material a refreshing sense of coolness.
240 sheets of ribbed polypropylene are laminated to form this lounge chair. The sheets are laser cut and laminated together. Two templates generate the form of the entire chair. Light fixtures embedded within the form shine through the ribbed polypropylene diffusing the light.
This is the beginning of a line of furnishings that combines illumination with an inexpensive material to form innovative light objects. The Luminous Lounger received a merit award in the Gifu Luminous Object Competition. It also reached the final judging in the 8th International Design Competition, Osaka. |
ルミナス ラウンジ ルミナス ラウンジは視覚上のパラドクスの実験である。あたかも赤熱した氷の塊から彫り出されたかのようにみえる。あたたかい輝きとさわやかな感触が共存する。
ポリプロピレンのシート240枚が貼り合されている。その一枚一枚は廉価なシートからＮＣによるレーザーカッターを用いて切り出された。切り出しに用いる型板は2タイプしかない。 3次元の曲面はカーヴに合わせてすこしずつずらして貼り合わせることで得られる。光は何重にも拡散され、密実な物質が発光しているようにみえる。
これは 廉価な素材とレーザーカッティングによって大量に制作されうる一連の新しい家具のプロトタイプである。ルミナスラウンジは 岐阜あかりオブジェクトコンペて奨励賞を、大阪国際デザインコンペで入選した。 |
